Planning a ride out to Rowena Crest next week - getting there riding through both the Oregon (Marine drive -Columbia river hwy - Bridge of the Gods) and the Washington side (SR-14 - Hood River bridge) of the Columbia river gorge OR it’s a little longer but we could go all the way on SR14 on the WA side (avoids steel grated bridges/ hwy 84). I did this ride last week and got to experience some great roads and awesome views. Plan for an all day ride as it will be a round trip of about 180- 200 miles (there will be stops where you can turn around if you don't want to go all the way). We'll meet at 8:45 AM at Mio Gelato and leave by 9:00 AM. Proposed routes: - Mix of OR and WA: http://tinyurl.com/l 5q74x OR - Mostly WA (longer route): http://tinyurl.com/l ez334 Few things to be aware of - If we take the route that splits between OR/ WA, we will hit hwy 84 a couple of times for a total of about approx 10 miles. If anyone has suggestions on a better route, please let me know. Bridge of the Gods and the Hood River bridge both have steel grating - if we take the longer WA route, we can avoid that. Will decide on day of ride depending on how folks feel. We'll stop for lunch along the way, again depending on when folks are ready to eat.
Weather: Not doing this ride even if there is a slight chance of rain because it will just make it miserable and riding on wet grating is not fun. At this point it is supposed to be sunny with a high of 78. And to whet your appetite on what to expect: http://i230.photobuc ket.com/albums/ee201 /uuu72/curves.jpg

If the weather holds out, I'm planning on doing a semi- long (2-3 hours or so) ride on the west side, possibly a loop through Skyline out to Scappoose- Vernonia hwy, down to Apriary and back to hwy 30. Given this is so last minute, final route depends on on who shows up and what the group feels like. Meet at Mio Gelato corner of NW 23rd and Kerney at 10:30 AM. Leave at 11:00 AM. Arjen is leading this ride to Detroit lake and back on August 2. Ride route will take you up the Clackamas River, along the Cascade crest to Detroit Lake and back. This ride is about 170 miles. We will be making photo stops as this route is really pretty. Plan on being there at 9, kickstands up at 9:15. They have a good breakfast, so you might wanna come early for that. We will stop in Estacada for fuel as there is none after that for some time. So again, When: Sunday, August 2nd at 9:00 AM Kickstands up at 9:15 AM Where: Meet at Bombers Cafe 13515 S.E. McLoughlin Blvd. Milwaukie, Oregon Map to Bombers: http://tinyurl.com/l wpqsh Proposed Route: http://tinyurl.com/k wo97p This should be a fun ride as the weather is supposed to cool down a bit as well.

We are going to give our ride to the coast another shot, given last time around it rained on the day we were supposed to do this (weather at this point for next Sat looks to be nice and warm). This ride is going to be our longest of the year and probably incudes some of the best scootering roads on the west side. :) Plan is to take Skyline to Rocky Point, down to 30 to Scappoose - Vernonia hwy, 47, 202 and 103 - a very short jaunt on 26 to 53 and then 101 to Cannon beach. We can have lunch at Camp 18 or at Cannon beach depending how we are doing on time. Take the same way back and, depending on how folks are feeling how we are doing on time, a short detour through Apiary and Cannan road to 30. We should have plenty of breaks through the day, but do plan to have a full day of riding. Details: Arrive Portland Vespa with Full tank of gas and correct tire pressure. When: July 25, 8:00am. Depart 8:30am sharp! Proposed Route: http://tinyurl.com/n wswnf Requirements: Must be able to cruise comfortably at 55mph (on level ground). This should be a long fun ride, so come on out :)

Last gas stop, Forest Grove, tally up all gas receipts and see who wins! Example: 240mi driven Most fuel-efficient scoot got 80mi/gal 240mi / 80mi/gal = 3gal consumed Assume gas costs $3.00/gal Assume 5 riders total 4 riders split the cost evenly at $2.25 per rider: (3gal x $3.00/gal)/4 $9.00 paid out to the rider with the most fuel-efficient scoot! Where and what: Planning a ride out to Hagg Lake for May, hitting Skyline through North Plains to hwy 47, doing a loop around the lake and then taking Bald peak road back and ending in Beaverton. If you have not been on this route before it is a great ride out, with a good mix of twisty roads. We will meetup at Vespa of Portland at 10:30 AM. You should have your bike gassed up, tires at the right psi. We will depart from Vespa at 11:00. Ride is expected to be about 3- 3.5 hours, depending on how many stops we make. If folks are up for it, we can take a short detour to Carlton for lunch or just power through the ride :). Proposed route: http://tinyurl.com/c qkka7 Pace: Pace is going to be mellow, so all skill levels are welcome. Weather caveat: Only planning on doing this if the weather holds out. If it is raining, I will reschedule. Let me know if you have questions. See you there!

***Please Note the Date Change*** Hello All~ So, it's our second annual Pumpkin Carving Potluck event. We will be meeting at Vespa of Portland at noon and then carpooling over to the Sauvie Island pumpkin patch. Those who wish to scoot over are more than welcome to. I will be leading on scoot, but be prepared for cold and wet weather, not to mention possible muddy parking. There we will pick out our pumpkins and head back to Vespa to carve them. Things to bring: -Cash (only) to buy a pumpkin. The pumpkin patch doesn't take checks or plastic. -Pumpkin carving supplies. Bring what you need to carve your masterpiece. Remember, in the end all the pumpkins will be judged and the winner will get a gift certificate to Vespa of Portland. I don't know how much this year, but it should be good. -A side dish. To share with everyone for the potluck. Annaka will be making Taco Salad Soup, so kinda go off that theme. Please let everyone know what you are bringing in your RSVP, that way we don't end up with 10 bags of Tortilla chips. LOL. -Change of shoes. The pumpkin patch is VERY muddy, so be prepared to get dirty or bring a change of clothes and shoes. Help if you can: Vespa of Portland gets cold that time of year, so I'm told by Justin. If you can please bring a space heater. If any of you guys have space heaters you can bring, that would be Awesome! Otherwise, dress warm. I will supply the hot cocoa. Hope to see all you crazy cats there. Tanya

Crown Point Ride: So, this will be exciting! We are going to ride out to Crown Point and back. As usual, we will meet at noon at Vespa of Portland. I'm not going to timeline this ride too much as I just want it to kind of be a relaxed, no time restraints ride. Make sure your gas tank is full and tire pressure is checked before you arrive. Like I said, meet at noon and we'll try to take off by 12:30 or so. Very Exciting! Tanya
